Electrical defibrillation and Cardioversion Workshop (First)

On the directions of worthy Principal QAMC Prof. Dr. Javed Iqbal and Head of cardiology Department Prof. Bilal Ahsan Qurashi, academic activity in the form of regular workshop on “Electrical Defibrillation and Cardioversion” has been arranged. Initiative was taken for the training of postgraduate doctors and medical officers working in various departments of Bahawal Victoria Hospital and Civil Hospital. No doubt, management and handling of cardiac emergencies is life saving and every doctor should be familiar with recognition of any possible fatal cardiac event and its subsequent treatment options. Cardiology department took initiative for this purposeful activity under the supervision of Dr Shahadat Huassian, Asssosiate Professor of cardiology. Following topics were elaborated and discussed in details in every conducted workshop:

  • Conduction System of the human heart
  • Characteristics of Cardiac cell, ECG waves and intervals
  • Recognition of normal heart rhythm and different rhythm abnormalities
  • Basic concept of various kind tachyarrhythmias and their management
  • Principals of Cardioversion and defibrillation
  • Components and working of defibrillators
  • Practical usage, hazards and troubleshooting of defibrillation
  • Different wards based Practical scenarios
  • Demonstration about the usage of cardiovertor/defibrillator

In every workshop target audience will include general practitioners, ward doctors, paramedical staff and medical students. At the end workshop all participants will be awarded a certificate of participation by the Principal QAMC. Feedback will be taken by the participant to improve the workshop in future.
